Astrology was birthed the moment people began consciously tracking the skies, observing patterns, and recording them to predict seasonal cycles and shifts. Essentially, astrology is the correlation between planetary movements, earthly events, and human destinies. Classical astrology is a sophisticated, time-tested system used to unveil information that would otherwise remain beyond our understanding, allowing us to observe our lives more objectively, master ourselves, and align with the natural rhythms of the universe.
The earliest records of astrological practice date back to the 3rd millennium BC in ancient Mesopotamia (modern-day Iraq), where the Sumerians first began observing celestial patterns. The first organized system of astrology was developed later, in the 2nd millennium BC in ancient Babylonia, where systematic astrological records were kept, associating planetary movements with earthly events.
From there, astrology spread through Egypt, Greece, India, Persia, and eventually medieval Europe, each culture adding its own influence and refinement to the practice. As it spread, astrology also influenced language, culture, medicine, and societal structures, shaping everything from philosophical thought to the arts. In medicine, astrology played a key role in diagnosing ailments, timing treatments, and understanding the body’s connection to celestial forces.
Over time, astrology evolved into a sophisticated, highly revered discipline that was deeply integrated into personal, political, and societal decision-making. The decline of astrology was shaped by a combination of religious rejection in the 16th century during the Protestant Reformation, Catholic Church condemnation, and the rise of modern science during the Scientific Revolution of the 17th century, which introduced empirical methods and a focus on materialism that conflicted with astrology’s spiritual and symbolic approach to understanding the universe.
However, astrology experienced a revival in the 20th century, through psychological approaches and initiatives such as Project Hindsight, a movement dedicated to restoring the practices of classical astrology by translating and preserving ancient texts, and focusing on the methods of classical astrologers.
Astrology is a mystical science, capable of providing guidance on virtually any question, event or area of life. It encompasses everything and excludes nothing. And while astrology is spiritual in nature, it is not a religion or spiritual path, nor does it exclude or contradict any religion or spiritual path. Its vast scope makes it an infinite tool for those seeking answers, clarity, or guidance - no matter the question.
